Printable Pre-School Worksheet

Here's a worksheet for all those parents of pre-schoolers who want to academically stimulate their children but are overwhelmed by the abundance of cool activities they see everyone else on the internet doing.

This worksheet is geared towards pre-schoolers, but it can be used in different ways depending on your child's abilities.  The worksheet includes seven different topics (date, color, number, weather, feelings, shape, and letter) and is meant as a framework to inspire learning throughout the day.  Use the worksheet to establish a color, shape, letter, and number on which to focus for the week or just for a day.  Then allow those topics to enter the rest of your day naturally.  For example, while taking a walk with your child, encourage him or her to spot objects that start with that day's letter.  Talk about the other topics (date, weather, and feelings) with your child, encouraging him or her to work out the date, describe the weather, and talk about his or her feelings.

To start, you may want to do most of the writing while your child adds pictures in the accompanying boxes.  Next, encourage your child to trace some of the words you write.  As your child gains knowledge and confidence, encourage him or her to do more and more of the writing.

Suggestions of low-effort accompanying activities:

* Use food dye to color your child's drink to match the color of the day.

* Play "I spy" of items starting with the letter of the day or that match the color of the day.

* With your child, list all the words you can think of that start with the letter of the day.

* Use cookie cutters or plastic knives to cut Play-dough into the shape of the day.

* Get your child moving by doing silly actions in sets of the number of the day.  For example, on the day focused on ten, have your child jump ten times, then spin in ten circles, etc.

The possibilities are endless, but the possibilities are much less overwhelming when set inside the framework of the worksheet.
